Back in Control
Man what an exciting Sunday night. First James "Jimmy" Darmody gets whacked by Nucky on Boardwalk Empire, then the NY Giants whack Romo and the Boys possibly out of playoff contention. What a monster season Eli Da God is having. He has finally gotten out of his big brother's shadow and cemented his spot in the "Elite QB" group. This Giant's victory was not only huge for the G-Men but for all NFL fans. The NY Giants are the only team so far to have GB up against the ropes and just shy from ruining their undefeated season. There was another "Undefeated" team that the Giants almost upended in the regular season. They got to finish the job at the Super Bowl. Could history be getting ready to repeat itself? Lets go down the list of NFC playoff contenders and see if they have a shot at beating the Pack in no particular order (starting with the NO CHANCE IN HELL teams).....
1. Detroit Lions
Ah the Lions. The former laughing stock of the NFL turned playoff contenders. They have a long history with GB. If they run into the Pack in the playoffs thats exactly what they will be.... history.
2. San Francisco 49ers
I think I might have not been as vocal about this team as I should have been. Let me be blunt, this team IS NOT a championship caliber ball club. Their QB is horrendous, Frank Gore is quite possibly the most overrated running back in the game and they have NO wide outs to speak of. I will give them their due credit defensively, but thats where it stops. This team will be the number 3 seed by the end of the season. The 9ers facing the Pack in the playoffs? That would be a Discount Double Check extravaganza!!!
3. Atlanta Falcons
I don't even want to waste my energy on yet another FALSE playoff team. Moving on.....
4. New Orlean Saints
Now we start getting to the creme of the creme. Drew Brees is having his typical yearly Brees Monster season just gobbling up those passing yards. I know what some of you are thinking, the Packers already beat NO. The thing is that Saints team, as good as they were, weren't playing at the level they are currently. In a rematch between the Saints and GB I would have to give the edge to the Saints. Even outdoors.
5. NY Giants
Yes I am biased. Anyone who knows me knows that. Shit you don't have to know me, just look at my posts! But with that being said has any other team besides the Giants gotten ever so close to defeating the unbeaten? Has any other team pushed Rodgers and company to the brink the way the G-Men did? No. The Giants proved that they can go toe to toe with power house that is the Packers. So what happens if the Packers have to run into Big Blue to get to the Super Bowl? Lets just say we have a history of beating the supposed unbeatable.
The bottom line is that last night's Giants victory was huge for the team and for the league. As long as the Big Blue are in contention, the Packers road to the Super Bowl won't be a cake walk. Take the Giants out of the equation, then there really is no reason to watch any more football now is there?
