J-Rod speaks from emotion.  He gets caught up in the moment. He's that guy that would get back with their ex because she looks HOT now.

I'm more analytical. Numbers play a huge factor and small sample sizes just won't cut it. I'm the guy the realizes she does look hot but remembers that ex did set fire to the living room over a text message.

J-Rod has every right to feel the team that finished at the top of the mountain should have the highest grade but it's not a popularity contest. We leave that to the "Power Rankings". Power Rankings are the "right now" factors. The report card is the TOTAL look at how you did overall, not how you finished.

Case in point, this "issue" J-Rod has with my ranking the Giants a B- and why the team who won it all should be an A+. "It's not rocket science", he said.  It's not. It is however very simple math. Power Rankings tell us who is the best at the end. But the article was a report grading the season as a whole. Does he realize to be an A+ student you'd have to be A+ student ALL YEAR LONG?! The Giants were C students, with inexplicable losses to SEA, PHI and WAS (twice). Also scrapped by ARI and DAL. Cmon. This is simple.

How about a perspective not my own. How about from a site that J-Rod has often quoted material from and posted links to. The Bleacher Report. Here's their article on the final report card for the Giants. We gave a overall team grade, they broke down every position. But it's difficult to get a clear total average with letters (A, D-, B+, etc...) so let's associate numbers to them.

A+ = 12
A   = 11
A-  = 10
B+ = 9
B   = 8
B-  = 7
C+ = 6
C   = 5
C-  = 4
D+ = 3
D   = 2
D-  = 1
F    = 0

According to that article, the Giants finished with a total score of 84* (Ed's note: Their coaches grade was not taken into consideration as our grades here did not quantify a coaching impact). So 84 averaged out equals 9.33. Which falls where on the above scale? What? I didn't hear you? A+? No. B+, two points away from where I had them.  B students.

*That article was also gracious on the grades for defense, as well all know the Giants D for a large majority of the season was nowhere near playing like their playoff caliber style until Week 16.

Note: I have noooo idea why J-Rod felt he had to change all of his grades because I gave the Giants a lower grade. Makes no sense but that does sound like him...

  1. I believe the grades were changed because no team this season can have a higher grade than the NY Giants, much like no pro wrestler can be ranked higher than Hulk Hogan.
