So here we are in at the cusp of a new MLB season and J-Rod is still yappin away about the NFL. Well what else do you want me to do? In any case today I have decided to discuss your 2011 NFC West Conference Champions the San Francisco 49ers. Now this team has been making a lot of buzz in the off season. Lets discuss what has become of this franchise.
1. Acquired Randy Moss
Now Randy Moss was one of the most prolific wide receivers of my era. His skills were second to none. Unfortunately he never used those skills to their full potential. Much like Terrel Owens, one good POP by a defensive back was all you would need to take him out of a game. Now at the ancient age of 51 he has signed with the 49ers. All the 49ers did is add a player who has a history of being a known distraction into a team that was pretty well grounded last season How does a washed up wide out help a team with a third stringer as the starting quarterback? Your guess is as good as mine.
2. Acquired Mario Manningham
Manningham was a key factor in the NY Giants championship run last season. He is most definitely a good wide out. The problem is that he had an ELITE quarterback in NY getting him the ball. Now he goes to SF which was at one point in time the home of ELITE quarterbacks. Nowadays? Not so much. Look for Manningham's numbers to drop (by no fault of his own) significantly this up coming season.
3. Acquired Brandon Jacobs
On paper this move makes sense. Jacobs is a big bruising back who can take some of the load off of Al Gore giving him more time to warn us about the environment being destroyed. On "paper" this is a good move. In reality it is not. Brandon Jacobs is now and has always been an OVERRATED running back. The guy had 2 good seasons.... count them.... 2!!!! He spent the last couple of seasons whining to the press about how he was unhappy cause he wasn't getting enough carries, how it wasn't fair that he wasn't the Giants feature back. Drama Bitch anyone? All he has left to do is get his own reality show and hang with Ocho and TO.
The San Francsico 49ers had a decent time last season, not good but decent. They played way above their skill level and that is commendable. But looking at what they have done thus far in the off season I would honestly be surprised if they ended the season 9-7 in 2012. The front office has taken a decent team that was once this....
and turned them into this....
